Rebecca welcomes the Government's 6-month extension of the Household Support Fund - worth £421m - which will offer help to those most in need with their essentials. She has pressured the Government to grant the extension, writing to the Minister for Work and Pensions to make the case for extra support. Applications will be open until 31st March 2025.
Support from the fund can be provided in a variety of ways, such as vouchers for food and fuel, directly providing food to households and issuing grants to third parties. The funding will be made available through Plymouth City Council and Devon County Council.
Rebecca, Member of Parliament for South West Devon, stated:
When Cabinet Member for Homes and Communities, I was responsible for cost of living and set up the Council’s Cost of Living Taskforce. I oversaw the distribution of the Household Support Fund and as a result recognised how important it was to enable the council and community groups to support the most vulnerable in the city. The same is true of the funding available for neighbouring councils.
That’s why I welcome the fact the Minister for Work and Pensions has listened to those who campaigned for the funding to remain after October and am pleased to have been able to join this campaign. I encourage those in need of extra support to apply.
