Rebecca Smith has welcomed news announced by the Chancellor in the Spring Statement that Plymouth will benefit from £7.6 million, part of the £2.4 billion Transforming Cities Fund to improve transport across English cities.
The funding will be used to improve transport links in Plymouth, making it easier for people to visit family and friends, to get to work and for businesses to move their products in and out of the city and surrounding areas.
The funding allocated in the Spring Statement will allow more areas in England to benefit from support. After the Chancellor announced the Transforming Cities Fund, cities across the country, including Plymouth, put together proposals for funding which the Government has now considered.
With its successful bid, Plymouth was one of just ten cities to receive a portion of £60 million of investment for transport through the Transforming Cities Fund. The bid by Plymouth City Council means £7.6 million of Government investment in transport infrastructure in the city.
Commenting, Rebecca Smith, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport said:
“I am thrilled that Plymouth City Council has been successful in its bid for this money – which will see £7.6 million invested to improve transport in the local area.
“From tackling congestion to making it easier for businesses to move their goods around, I have no doubt that the benefits of this money will be felt across Plymouth.
“Through the modern Industrial Strategy, this Government is committed to ensuring that no region is left behind, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts this funding will bring to our local transport system.”
