Really enjoyed a return visit to the Moorcroft Quarry in Plymstock today (although the rain kept us office bound so have included some photos from before too!).
This vast site is the last inner city located quarry in the country and has supplied aggregate and asphalt for well known local projects such as the Forder Valley Link Road, the new Crematorium, Sherford and the new A30 in Cornwall.
The new plans to extend the cycle path from Colesdown Hill towards Sherford will be made possible thanks to the team at Moorcroft enabling access across their land. Really pleased to see this is coming forward!
Companies like Aggregate Industries have to ensure they can recover their sites once quarrying is complete and it was good to be able to talk to them about plans to manage biodiversity net gain and nature recovery.
So much of South West Devon's history is linked to quarrying and mining, particularly materials like limestone and china clay and I have really enjoyed finding about more about what that work looks like today.
Thanks for the visit! Looking forward to working together in the future.
