I got to spend the day in Westminster yesterday. Went up for a meeting with the All Party Group on Intensive Care, something I've been working on with Sir Gary Streeter MP and an inspirational nurse from Derriford Hospital for a couple of years.
Being in Parliament provided the perfect opportunity to drop into an event organised by the Restart Project, Back Market and the Community Repair Network alongside the Green Alliance to promote the amazing work of local repair cafes.
Did you know there are a number of these across South West Devon as seen on the map below including The Store- Ivybridge’s Repair Cafe + Share Shop, Horrabridge Repair cafe and Plympton Repair Cafe? I grew up with Grandads who were excellent at repairing things from clocks to bikes and everything in between and my Dad is an excellent fixer too - for example he painstakingly cleaned the original bannister fixings and door hinges when we renovated my house! So I love the idea behind repair cafes - fixing things to extend their life rather than throwing items away and buying new.
Looking forward to getting to know our local Repair Cafes and using them if Dad gets too busy at his local Men's shed!
