Last week I attended Kinship's charity reception in Parliament to learn more about kinship carers in South West Devon. A kinship carer is a family member or friend who step up, often during an unexpected crisis, to care for a child when their parents aren't able to. It was inspiring to hear first-hand from this special group of people who have stepped up for around 141,000 children in the UK.
I've been passionate about Looked After Children for many years. As a councillor on the Corporate Parenting Group, I played an active role in shaping how Plymouth delivers on its care for these children and young people. As an MP, I will fight even harder for better support from central government.
