Having written to the Transport Secretary to seek assurances about the capability of Millbay ferry port in the event of a no-deal Brexit, I've received the following response.
'I am pleased that Plymouth is in a position to relieve the Port of Dover and Folkestone, and to contribute to our national resilience in ferry services, should the need arise.
I would like to reassure you that sufficiency of capacity at the Port and in its environs was taken into account in the award of the Brittany contract. Work is in hand by Brittany and ABP to ensure that the potential additional traffic can be effectively accommodated by 29 March.
I am sure both companies would be ready to contribute as and when the Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Resilience Forum considers the matter, to help ensure that additional traffic is managed in sympathy with the local road network.'
