Did you know there is a construction skills training centre on site in our new town of Sherford?
To ensure we had the skilled construction workers to build the 1000s of new homes there, City College Plymouth nd the new home builders set up the Sherford Skills Training Scheme to do just this.
On Friday, I got to visit their fantastic workshop and met with some of the Building Heroes trainees who are either veterans or are gaining construction skills ahead of leaving the armed forces ready for new roles. This is just one of the training schemes run by City College at the centre.
It was great to meet Danny, Steve, Chris, Keith and Alex and hear about the work they are doing.
Thanks to Noel, Tom and Adam from Taylor Wimpey for arranging the visit. It was great to see their new homes and 'Unwrapped House' at the Sherford Urban Quarter. This 'exposed' house shows how their homes are built and the work they are doing to create sustainable and efficient homes.
A great way to spend a couple of hours on a Friday!
