Today, as part of my day job with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, I had the privilege of arranging a commemorative event on Plymouth Hoe as part of our D Day 80th commemorations.
Monday 20th May is also the 70th anniversary of the unveiling of the WW2 extension to the CWGC Naval Memorial.
We had a wonderful time and I am so delighted that we were joined by 100 year old Plymstock resident, Bill Johnston and 99 year old Newton Ferrers resident, Suzanne Sparrow. Both were involved in the D Day campaign which brought about the beginning of liberation to Western Europe.
Our Lighting their Legacy campaign saw a flame passed between Bill and future Armed Forces recruit, Jack Kinsman-Moore.
Huge thank you to everyone involved in making the event so special and to all those who came along to share it with us.
