The Care Quality Commission's 'Requires Improvement' rating is worrying but unsurprising news for anyone who has relied on Derriford's urgent and emergency services. I was deeply disappointed that the Chancellor did not honour Labour's manifesto commitment to Derriford's new Urgent and Emergency Care Facility (UEC) in the Budget, and instead chose to kick it into the long grass until at least January.
This rating only serves to highlight the need for our hospital's new UEC facility which I continue to campaign for passionately. Heathcare workers and patients alike deserve better. My petition which calls on the Government's to honour its pledge continues to garner support from across Devon and Cornwall, now nearing 1,000 signatures. I have written again to the Secretary of State with the Care Quality Commission's findings to reiterate the need for a new UEC facility and raised it in today's dental debate.
I encourage anyone who has not yet signed this petition to do so. The larger the number, the greater the pressure on the Government listen to our region and stop stalling on Derriford funding.
