The Home Secretary's half-baked local enquiries into grooming gangs do not meet the scale of the national scandal. Equally, labelling people with genuine concerns about these abhorrent crimes as "far-right" is a sloppy attempt to shut down the debate. It is precisely this type of behaviour that has stopped victims from speaking up.
The Conservatives have led the calls in Parliament for a national enquiry, with support from MPs from other parties. I asked the Home Secretary if the £7m announced to fund the initial five inquiries is new money or will come from existing funding.
