Many new build residents are hit with the double whammy of council tax and service charges, with little in return from property management companies. Many residents have written to me about the financial burden this places on their families.
In Parliament, I have highlighted the particular challenge for new towns like Sherford where every home is a new home. On Monday I asked the Minister for Housing and Planning for his plans to address the impact of service charges imposed by FirstPort and others.
The Minister's response that the Government's leasehold reforms will include additional protections for residential freeholders is welcomed. I will continue to monitor the Government's housing legislation with my constituents' interests in mind.
