Growing up in a family with a kitchen and furniture business in Plymouth, Rebecca passionately believes that small businesses are the backbone of the local economy. South West Devon boasts more than 3,000 small businesses, varying from Alderman Tooling to Porsham Farm to Marine AI.
Rebecca has been outspoken about the impact of the Chancellor's tax-rising Autumn 2024 Budget on local services and small businesses. She has spoken at length in Parliament about the compound effect of rises to Employers’ NIC, the National Living Wage and the Energy Price Cap. This will mean weaker services, fewer jobs, lower investment, and anaemic growth in South West Devon.
On farming, Rebecca has been at the forefront of the campaign to reverse the cruel 'family farm tax'. In a Parliament speech, she argued the vital importance of family farms for passing down knowledge of the land, protecting our rural landscape, and addressed the unique challenges of farming in Devon. The newly-elected MP has also joined the NFU Food and Farming Fellowship Scheme to gain a hands-on experience of different farming sectors and regularly meets with farming groups such as NFU Plympton and Tavistock to remain fully informed of the needs of her farmers.
