It was a pleasure to meet John and Laurence at Porsham Farm on Friday. The Westcountry Rivers Trust do incredible work restoring and protecting our freshwater environments. Their focus on building positive relationships with farmers over 30 years continues to help minimise pollutant loss and improve the ecological health of farms. I look forward to working closely with them as a rural Devon MP.
Will and Tanya at Porsham are the model example of how a collaborative approach between farmers and environmentalists can reap rewards. They have created a network of 7 ponds on unproductive land across the farm, protecting Tamerton Foliot from flooding and building up the water table. This will help make the farm more resilient as our weather grows more unpredictable with wetter winters and dryer summers.
