When I was interviewed for the position of candidate a few weeks ago, I said that one of my campaign priorities was to ensure our local NHS services get the funding they need. I said I was backing Johnny For Plymouth’s fight to see the Government invest £25 million in a new and improved Emergency Department at Derriford Hospital.
However, I also said I may not need to add my voice to this specific campaign as I believed Johnny Mercer would secure this investment before Christmas as he pledged.
Today, I welcome the news that the Government have announced not just £25 million but £30 million to create an Emergency and Urgent Care Hub at Derriford Hospital.
Thanks to the Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, for visiting Derriford Hospital with Johnny back in September and making this much-needed investment in our local hospital as a result. Well done to Ann James at Derriford Hospital for having a plan ready for the Government to invest in. And well done to Johnny for delivering as he said he would.
The people of Plymouth will benefit dramatically from this new centre and the enhanced services it will provide. The wonderful staff at Derriford will also benefit from the new equipment and facilities as they continue the work they do to provide excellent care for families and individuals across the city.
What a win for Plymouth!
