The Government’s family farm tax will devastate family farms in South West Devon. From April 2026, family farms worth more than £1m, previously exempt, will have to pay inheritance tax at 20%.
Every week I hear from farmers who run on thin margins. Farm profits cannot meet the additional cost of inheritance tax, risking families having to at best sell off and at worst sell up. The Chancellor's smash and grab of family farms will prevent hard-working families which have farmed their land for generations from passing it on to their children and grandchildren.
70,000 farmers will be affected across the UK, threatening food security, risking jobs and raising food prices.
