On Sunday I joined the Conservative Environment Network's water panel, 'Muddying the waters: where next for water quality?'. The network, like I, believes that we have a duty to protect our natural inheritance for future generations.
With Parliament debating the farming budget next Tuesday, I took the opportunity to raise that 46% of water pollution is caused by land runoff. I will fight to protect our farmers from Labour cuts which jeopardise efforts to improve sustainable farming practices.
Equally, residents across South West Devon rightly demand that South West Water cleans up its act. Whether it's Jennycliff or Mothecombe Beach, our corner of Devon offers many idyllic swimming spots which have sadly been spoilt by water pollution. As your representative in Westminster, I will pressure the Government to hold the water company to account, call an end to sewage discharges and improve water quality.
