I am very concerned that Lloyds Bank are closing their branch in Plymstock at the end of this year. As the final bank on the Broadway, they have been a valuable community asset and essential for access to cash. Since the Post Office closed in 2021, it has been even more essential. Many constituents, including many elderly constituents, rely on this in-person service for their banking needs and cash.
With the exodus of our final bank on the Broadway, it opens up the prospect of a Banking Hub instead - something that wasn’t an option whilst we still had one bank. I will work with Cash Access UK, Link and the Post Office and do whatever it takes to secure a banking hub on the Broadway. In fact, I have already had conversations with a potential operator. Not only would a banking hub mean access to cash, it would mean access to a variety of banks and importantly, could provide the much longed for replacement Post Office services on the Broadway.
Coincidentally, I'm speaking about the future of local post offices in Parliament on Thursday and will use this opportunity to raise the issue.
